The amazing Kat is rounding the bend of the final week of her Kickstarter campaign for physical editions of Robust Heat. In the meantime, here's a character sketch she did for The Day The World Went Away. Seriously amazing artist, and an amazing person. Y'all go show her some love.
Cheers,
Rusty

Another quarter, and another update.
So, starting with the ongoing stuff: both Project Legacy and Have Gun, Will Reincarnate are written and buffered out to the end of the year. However, due to the almost complete lack of interest in Project Legacy, I'm not yet sure if it's going to continue on past that. There's time yet for things to turn around, but if I'm being honest, it kinda sucks to see it flop so hard. I've done some tweaking to see if the algorithm gods will step in, but we'll see.
Because of the lack of interest in Project Legacy, I'm holding off on purchasing covers for The Ambitions Are, The Price of a Mile (Edgar's new story, which I wrote this winter), and the Have Gun, Will Reincarnate anthology. The participants in the anthology have all been massively busy, so that's probably for the best. It's still happening, and the Inksgiving funds are still going to buy the cover, but it's on hold until everyone has a little more free time. As for the other two, I may just release them as part of Baptism By Fire for the sake of keeping everything tidy.
The good news is, work is still ongoing on The Day The World Went Away. My co-author and I recently made a trip to Galveston, Texas to visit the USS Cavalla, a Gato-class submarine and sister to the USS Cod, the hero ship in TDTWWA. Work on that is proceeding apace. We just wrapped up volume 3, and work has started on volume 4. Stay tuned.

Starting work on The Day The World Went Away again, so if you want to keep up with progress and get a sneak peek, the Discord server is the best way to do it. We've got a few folks already, but I'd like to have some more before it's all said and done. Makes it easier to gauge how things are going.

In totally not Valentine's Day related news, I've created a Discord server for The Day the World Went Away, aka, the submarine story. My original thought was that it would be the easiest way to fulfil Inksgiving obligations, but it might also be fun to hang out, shoot the shit about writing, the universe, and everything. My co-author on the submarine story will also be there. She's a little on the shy side, so be nice.
Cheers, Rusty.

My newest novel, Project Legacy, is now up. The first five chapters are live now, and I'll be posting every Monday from now until the heat death of the universe. Cheers.

And thus, another year comes to an end.
2023 was an odd one. I somehow managed to accomplish more and less than I wanted to, and I'm not sure how to feel about that. Less, because I didn't publish any new series. More, because I wrote a whole hell of a lot. Had everything gone to plan we'd have had a couple more on the calendar already, but alas.
So, what can we look for in 2024?
First things first: We're going back to the world of Baptism By Fire. Starting tomorrow, I've got a short story following Mycroft, Jimmy, Edgar, and Mycroft's niece that'll run for a few weeks. The first proper successor to Baptism, The Ambitions Are, is also finished and awaiting a cover. I want to get it launched in February.
Meanwhile, Project Legacy, an entirely new story that was supposed to start in October, should have a cover in the next week or two. My goal is to launch it by the third week of January.
March will (hopefully) see the launch of the HGWR anthology. Inksgiving funds have been released, and I'm reaching out to the cover artist this week, once they hit my Paypal.
As for The Day the World Went Away, I want to start promo for it in March with the Inksgiving goals. The goal is to start regular releases for it in April or May, depending on how long it takes me to get out to Texas for a research trip.
So yeah, that's the plan for the next little bit. Thanks for sticking around through 2024, and I hope to see you all again next year.
Cheers,
Rusty

Slight oopsie with today's emergency Encyclopedia update. Since my main computer is dead, I'm writing on the computational equivalent of a potato with gout, and something went screwy with the uploads. The introduction ended up posting both late and out of order, and it ruined a perfectly good joke in doing so. Should be fixed now.
Another quarter, and another volume comes to an end. Volume 3 of Have Gun, Will Reincarnate is finished, and volume 4 officially starts tomorrow. Woohoo!
As for other projects, well...So, I never did get around to Sun Killer. That's still on the list, but I've had a few other things get stuck in my head.
The first is a sci-fi action piece called Project Legacy, centering around a group of scientists who learn how to travel back along their own personal timelines to avert a climate catastrophe that will destroy Earth. This one is a bit of a new approach for me, being written in third person and extremely dialogue heavy. I've got the first three volumes written, and I expect to start publishing sometime in the October/November timeframe.
The next project, the one I'm currently writing, is a collaborative effort centering around a complex polycule trying to survive a waterworld-style apocalypse by stealing a WWII-era submarine. Yeah, that's a mouthful, but I'm having a blast writing it. Not sure on a timeline for when it gets published, but I'm thinking early next year? You know how that goes.
As far as existing projects, I've got a crap ton written for the Encyclopedia Armamentarium that needs to be edited and published. The holdup there is finding pictures. I want to get something like a regular release schedule going, just as soon as I get the spoons to edit. Ugh.
Anyway, that's where we're at now. Thanks for sticking around so far.

Howdy folks, just coming in with the quarterly update. Volumes 4 and 5 of Have Gun, Will Reincarnate are finished. 4 is uploaded and ready to go. It'll start publishing when Volume 3 concludes in August, and will run until December. Volume 5 will be uploaded later this summer, once my cover art budget opens back up.
As for other projects, I'm not sure where exactly I'm going next. Sun Killer is allegedly next up, but that one's been kicking my ass for a solid year now, so we'll see. I'm probably going to spend the summer taking it easy, maybe do some traveling to recharge my creative batteries, then take another whack at it.
Thanks for sticking around,
Rusty
